Kiwi Fruit

Salad lovers will enjoy the kiwi fruit. This unusual fruit is prized for its vibrant green hue and unique flavor. Kiwi fruit, sometimes known as Chinese gooseberry and Macaque fruit, is an edible berry that grows on a woody vine native to China. It is considered to be the Chinese national fruit. Essentially, it is an oval-shaped fruit with a fibrous dull greenish brown exterior and bright green or golden flesh that contains multiple rows of small edible black seeds. It is about the size and weight of a hen’s egg. Its flesh is soft and fuzzy, with a delicate flavor reminiscent of strawberry, apple, pineapple, and banana.

Benefits of Kiwi Fruit:

i) Promotes Digestion: Kiwis are an excellent source of dietary fiber, which promotes digestive health and binds and eliminates toxins in the colon, hence reducing colon cancer. Additionally, it helps avoid constipation and other digestive problems. Actinidain is a protein-digesting enzyme found in raw kiwi. It is comparable to papain found in papaya and bromelain found in pineapple.

ii) Enhances Immune Function: The high vitamin C concentration of kiwi fruit, along with various other antioxidant substances, has been shown to be useful at modulating the immune system in a favorable manner. Additionally, it contains vitamin E, which has been shown to boost the immune system and reduce cholesterol. Thus, kiwi fruit eating is an excellent strategy to combat the effects of inflammation, stress, and infection from bacteria and viruses.

iii) Blood Pressure Control: The high potassium content of kiwis aids in the maintenance of body fluid and electrolyte balance in the cells. It acts as an antagonist to sodium’s effects on the heart and blood pressure.

iv) Cardiovascular Health: Kiwifruit is just as effective as aspirin at preventing heart attacks and strokes without the risk of intestinal inflammation and bleeding. Consumption of kiwi fruit on a regular basis helps prevent the formation of plaques and deposits in the artery walls, hence guarding against cardiovascular disease.

v) Anti-cancer Properties: Kiwifruit flavonoids and carotenoids have anti-cancer properties. These phytochemicals guard your DNA from oxidative stress and free radical damage. They prevent cancer cells from growing and multiplying by preventing DNA damage.

vi) Beneficial to Diabetics: Kiwifruit has a low glycemic index, which means that it does not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar. Kiwis have a glycemic load of four, making them diabetic-friendly.

vii) Eye Health: Kiwifruit contributes to vision enhancement. This is because it includes a high concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are both naturally occurring compounds in the human eye. By screening out harmful blue light, lutein helps prevent age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts. Additionally, zeaxanthin and lutein work synergistically to promote eye health.

viii) Preserves Alkaline Balance: Kiwifruit is one of the most alkaline fruits, which means it contains a high concentration of minerals that can compensate for an individual’s excess of acidic foods. It aids in the preservation of the body’s acid-alkaline equilibrium.

ix) Male Impotency Treatment: Kiwifruit contain the amino acid arginine, a well-known vasodilator that has been used to treat male impotence. Additionally, it contains zinc, which aids in testosterone enhancement in men.

x) Aids in Weight Loss: In comparison to other fruits with a high sugar content, kiwifruit’s low glycemic index and high fiber content avoid a severe insulin rush. As a result, this fruit aids in weight loss by preventing fat buildup.

xi) Pregnancy Benefits: Kiwifruit is a good source of folic acid, which is necessary for a healthy pregnancy and newborn, as well as the prevention of birth defects. Kiwifruit contains the equivalent of four peaches in terms of folate. Folate is required for the proper development of the baby’s blood cells while in the womb.
